2016 Favourites from John, Jenaya & Josiah Launstein

It’s that time of the year when photographers put together a list of favourite images from the past 12 months. We’ve enjoyed doing the same, but have always struggled with the tension of separating favourite memories and experiences from the images themselves. This year had some pretty crazy developments for our family of wildlife and conservation photographers, so we decided to do something a little different: each of us (John, Jenaya–now 19–and Josiah–now 12) chose one favourite image, one favourite experience, and one bestselling print as chosen by our collectors and gallery clients. Jenaya returns to the Smithsonian with “Ramscape” | The story behind the image

We couldn’t be more excited to share that Jenaya’s work is back on exhibit in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC! “Ramscape” is a favourite image of Jenaya’s both because of the story behind it and the fact it comes from her home stompin’ grounds (photographed less than an hour from her door!). Marlise Named to the Top-100 of the 2016 Audubon Photography Awards

Marlise, now 16, is our official Artist-in-Residence at the Launstein home. OK, maybe it’s not an official position, but there’s no question this girl is a pure artist irrespective of medium. Although her primary focus has moved from photography to drawing over the past several years, she’s even more skillful than ever when she’s behind the lens. Read more
